Remember me…..
Captains Log - 0017/ 29th September 2024 / 1600hrs
To be fair, I did say I get distracted…..
You see, I hope it will go on an' on
And when the curtain call is done
Morning always comes
Anyone listened to the new David Gilmore album……..it’s playing as I write this afternoon (and in the garden when the sun is around - not today). 78 and playing in Circo Massimo in Rome, Italy at the moment with his daughter and a suite of music maestro’s. From time to time I join them on rhythm remotely (they just don’t know that).
So a little distracted over the last few months, but in a good way. Never a dull moment on the East Coast of the island at the bottom of the planet. Glad to report to all that The Ship is a structure of beauty on a mount exposed to the Tasman Sea. When those “we haven’t see that before” winds and rain kick in, we are beside the fire, behind thick glass cooking something with our chests puffed out knowing that The Ship has what it takes for what comes at it from the Deep South. We are looking forward to those calm to still northerlies though, and we had a brief taste yesterday - my tomatoes grew taller. Tilting ever closer…..
Speaking of the garden - it is a thing of beauty. Raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, beetroot, mint, sage, coriander, parsley, onion, peas, beans, pumpkins, cucumber, spinach, wild pepper berry, potatoes, ginger, mandarin, tomatoes, apples, pears, rosemary, rhubarb and I could go on. When you come and visit in late Spring or during Summer there will be a forest of food wonderland to explore.
Right next door to the Hanging Garden of Binalong Bay is the Kubla Khan of chicken world. Six of the luckiest chickens in the world got the willy wonker chicken ticket and ended up here. I mean they have their moments as teenagers, three of them are what I have now learned is “brooding”…. or….. “boring”. They are getting left over pasta, coconut rice and mashed Dutch cream potatoes (sometimes mixed with “Ritual Coffee Launceston” Amelia Blend grounds), along with a mixture of anything else that used to go into a suburban bin. I mean I even gave them an oyster, but they prefer theirs Kilpatrick apparently - snobs.
We are very much in “here comes the season” mode at the moment - it is rather exciting actually after the hibernation of the region for the duration of winter (although winter down here is something others miss and the locals love).
We are extremely lucky to have folk in our lives that can help out from time to time and love doing so. At some point there will be a “Lizzie Square” created somewhere on the 27 hectares, here overlooking Binalong Bay. There is a point in my capabilities and an appreciation of those that have honed their craft. That can extend past that “point”. Plumbers and sparkies are those folk - and both have been needed and available and awesome on each occasion. “Lizzie Square” though is a testament to a guru in the world of presenting “amazing” to the world and a champion “past that point” human. With that said, we are going down the rabbit-hole of creative content. It is quite fun actuality and the processes we use are enjoyable to us, so it is not a chore (I mean you have to have a camera in your hand and look in any direction). The digital world is navigable by myself to a certain point (usually a paywall).
We are proud to present:
Hint - Eddystone Point.
Yes - you heard it here first……not public yet, but not far away - watch this space.
We will be doing a fair bit in the meta verse because that where everyone seems to be looking these days - you just need to catch a bus and bask in the digital squares that light up the interior nights for proof. Shout out to “Anth and Sal” for drones and bike riding skills.
I don’t know about you, but has anyone noticed that we are getting hit with quite chart topping solar flares at the moment. It was nice to see Elon’s latest line in the sky as a distraction from all these beams of light. Reminds me when I stayed in Rome outside the Pantheon - after day three I had to slap my face and remind me that I was just strolling past something amazing.
Apparently if you want toys you need ones and zeros with decimal points in the right place. So with that in mind I have eased myself into “consultant world”. I recently did my first (and potentially last) freebie. Without boring you too much, The Ship - Consulting submitted a paper to the Senate the other day on freight and shipping things. It was interesting to get my head back into the world I walked away from eight months ago, but I guess it is like driving a Shitbox through the desert, you just dust it off from the last time and go again. There doesn’t seem to be any lack of problems out there so at some point I expect to be working on something that provides good outcomes. I’m in no hurry though.
We have guests coming now and booked into the future. The smart ones jump on “those dates” early - Christmas, New Years and Easter already booked. Our favorite thing is direct bookings, referred from friends. We have a few of those and we love meeting folk from all over the planet and a few from our little island as well. All of these people have written in the guest book saying how much they loved staying here - it means we are doing something right. It’s not that hard, we just live and then people come and stay down stairs. Friends of friends referrals get a large discount from the “platforms” as no commission has to be paid baby! They usually also get the royal treatment of fresh coffee, a breakfast with our eggs and the most amazing bacon on the planet (shout out to Bjarke and the crew at Oldway Farms) - maple bacon of amazingness.
Of course there is heaps more since the last Captain’s Log, it’s been a while (sorry). Chainsaw and fire wood whispering, walking and mountain bike trail creations, exploring roads less taken, frog listening, wallaby hangouts, black cockatoo gliding and if I keep going I will be here for hours. But it is Gin o’clock, the fire is on and the amplifier warmed up.
Thank you for reading my ramblings again – keep safe and see you next time.
